One of the biggest obstacles as a piping contractor is hanging the pipe. Piping contractors often go into existing facilities where the access to the ceiling is pretty limited. In one instance, there was a large piece of machinery located right underneath the place where they needed to have access.
A lift couldn’t be used to reach the high ceiling and they didn’t want to build expensive scaffolding to get there, so an idea was born to get around the problem: the Truss-T Hanger. The solution to this issue was a T-shaped hanging device that could be inserted through the center of the truss, twisted to rest across the two legs of the truss and then screwed easily into place from below.
Composed of carbon steel, the Truss-T Hanger can support up to 1,200 pounds and is used to suspend light fixtures, plumbing, fire suppression equipment, and components of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems.
Its design allows the use of common threaded pipe for the support drops, and permits drop lengths of up to 20 feet without need of a splice coupling. It also screws into electrical conduits, HID lighting and junction boxes without the need of special adapters.
The Truss-T differs from traditional beam clamps that need to be bolted onto one side of the truss, which could weaken the truss.
The old beam clamp was designed for a totally different type of truss system and pre-engineered truss systems are becoming more predominant now. The Truss-T Hanger is specifically made to attach to these truss systems, and on top of that it is easier to install, it can handle more load capacity, has good seismic restraint, and it’s impossible for it to fall. Simply put, the Truss-T Hanger is designed for modern contracting work and nothing on the market matches it.
Recently, the Truss-T Hanger has received Underwriter’s Laboratory certification, meaning it has been OK’d by an independent national agency which regulates the use of many products used by consumers, particularly anything with electrical components.
